For the journalistic platform Vers Beton, I created an editorial illustration for their semi-annual summer book supplement. In this feature, Vers Beton highlights a selection of must-read books.
The illustration brings the booklist to life through a vibrant summer picnic scene: some characters are on a date enjoying wine and food, while others stand tall on a pile of books as a living statue. A special detail is the portrayal of Lotte van Eijk (also known as Lovaeij on social media), who is instantly recognizable in the artwork, something I was especially proud of capturing so well.
Throughout the composition, visual references to the featured titles are woven in, including Chineze Kees, Stadsgenoten, Rotterdam-popstad, Café Marseille, De Meidenmethode, Tante Bertha, Kijk niet om!, Inside the new shopping bag, and Gebouwen door vrouwen.
Playful and light in detail, the artwork captures the cheerful summer mood of the publication, making it a fitting and festive conclusion to the book supplement.
