These are three paintings that all portray a different state of being of my oldest cousin. He was the inspiration to start painting and these acrylic three-panel paintings are the first three I ever made as an official attempt at painting.

You see the three states in which we as a family get to experience and see him. At the time I did not know how he experienced his phases of being. After these paintings, I was only able to talk to him about it. Because before that I did not know how to talk to him about it because we did not see each other that much. But this was a way for me to let him know that I did see him as a person.

- The first portrait is his drunken, angry self. The always partying and never backing down he that he is.

- The second portrait is his withdrawn self. Sort of reflective and the fitting of surroundings and feelings. The third is his happy dad vibes when he is with us and his family and then for all his two beautiful children.

- For these portraits, it was really figuring out where to start and how I could make him look the most. I used multiple photos as references and videos besides just memories to get the portraits right. The only thing I should have taken into account more in retrospect is that because I painted in the evening with table lamps he turned out a bit darker than intended but despite that he still looks striking.
